Cleaning the Dust

Interactive installation. Projection, depth camera, TouchDesigner, wooden bench.
Concept and visual design: Yulia Nemova.
TouchDesigner and visual design: Julia Krivosheenko.
First iteration developed during hosq residency in Yerevan, Armenia; presented within Notations #2 “Rituals,” Yerevan, July–August 2026.

Dust is what accumulates in architecture while no one is paying attention;
it makes time, air, and the movement of people visible. Here that layer is
transferred into a digital plane and returned to a real surface — as another
dimension of the same place, one that usually slips past perception. Cleaning becomes a way of getting to know the space: to wipe something away, you first have to see where it has settled, and to see it, you have to slow down, lean in, run your hand across.
Layer of digital dust is projected from above onto the horizontal surface of a bench or shelf. A depth camera tracks the viewer’s hand, and when the palm passes over the wood the dust scatters beneath it and slowly begins to gather again. Room readable through a single gesture.

The work continues my ongoing research into invisible architecture, the layers of a space that exist in parallel to physical form and become visible only through action.
