Corner, apt thresholds

Single-channel video installation, 10 hours
Video synchronised with the movement of local shadows and the sun

Corner is a site-specific installation created for the group exhibition APT: Thresholds within the exhibition space of an apartment in Bermondsey, London.

The work transforms a domestic corner into a threshold between physical and digital space. The looped video installation shows the same corner from the viewer’s point of view, but inhabited by the shadows of virtual figures that pass through the space from time to time. These ephemeral shadows appear at intervals, creating moments when viewers may initially mistake the digital shadows for their own.

The gaps between shadow appearances are crucial — during these quiet intervals the video becomes indistinguishable from the physical space. When a shadow suddenly moves across the frame while the viewer stands still, a cognitive dissonance arises. This disconnect between the projected space and the real space creates an unsettling threshold moment in which our understanding of physical boundaries becomes unstable.
