FLICKERING PLACE

The project assumes an infrathin space that has no form, changes continuously and becomes perceptible only in time. Marcel Duchamp used the term in his Notes to describe a separation, a delay or a gap between two things, a difference that does not exist and is easy to imagine: the thickness of a shadow, the warmth of a seat someone has just left, a reflection in glass.
I look for that space in the halls of museums and galleries, in the distance between an artwork and the person standing in front of it, which the eye reads as empty. Neurophotogrammetry holds those halls as a point cloud, and between every particle of the cloud there are fragments that no visitor is in a position to see. Working through these recordings I fix the moment when the space has presence and density.
The video carries us through the point clouds and through fragments of space that lie outside the viewpoint a museum offers, so we see what we could not or were not meant to see, and we end up inside infrathin spaces that keep being generated. The drawings are made afterwards by hand, and coloured pencil holds the barely visible fragments and single points of an environment better than any other material. Paper stretched over a wooden board belongs to architectural drawing, since what these sheets record is unseen and presumed to exist.
